Awards & Scholarships

Allied Arts Association believes strongly in the value of art education. Because of this value, we annually offer the following scholarships and awards to artists and art students:

 

Master of Fine Arts Scholarship

Master of Fine Arts $4,000 Scholarship Competition and Exhibition

Eligibility

Competition is open to all students enrolled in a visual arts MFA program and in residence at a university in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho. Students must have completed at least one term and have at least one term remaining in their program.

Columbia Basin College

Allied Arts Association contributes $2,500 annually to CBC Foundation for a scholarship going to a local art student.

Eligibility

Student must be enrolled in the CBC Arts Programs. Art students submit CBC Foundation scholarship application with documentation of their artwork. 

Scholarship recipients are evaluated on the following criteria: skill level, creativity, commitment (reflected in work and grades), GPA, letters of recommendation, and financial need. Art faculty (all holding advanced art degrees), with an invited local artist to serve as third juror, will select the scholarship recipient.

Annual Art Awards

Szulinski Award
An annual, $500 award for excellence in a three-dimensional medium. It is given out every January to a Gallery Artist.

About the Award:
Bette Szulinski was a long-time board member of Allied Arts. Bette herself was a craft artist creating many beautiful fabric treasures. Before her death, Bette and her family set up the award to recognize artists who have distinguished themselves with excellence of craftsmanship in a three-dimensional medium. Criteria established for the award are; originality, fine craftsmanship, and continuity.

Condotta Award
An annual, $250 award for excellence in a two-dimensional medium.
It is given out every February to a Gallery Artist.

About the Award:
This award was established in 2006 by Leola Condotta  in memory of  her husband Denny, a prominent member of the Hanford community. Denny (1926-2004) and Leola were longtime supporters and leaders of arts and civic groups in the Tri-Cities.

Nancy Messner Memorial Award
$250 given annually
