Wearable Art by Desert Fiber Arts

  • Allied Arts Association 89 Lee Blvd Richland United States (map)

Our motto is "Each One Teach One". We came from humble beginnings. A group of like-minded people found themselves in a fiber dyeing class at Allied Arts. This was the beginning. A guild of people who pooled their talents and resources was born. The name Desert Fiber Arts was meant to encompass artists throughout the area. We have members from all the Tri-Cities plus Walla Walla, Hermiston, Zillah, Prosser, Battle Ground, and Spokane, to name a few.

For the majority of the DFA Guild's life, the library and equipment were housed in various homes throughout the area. Meetings were held in public venues & private homes. The membership has now grown over the years to over 130 members! In 2014 our “dream came true” with the offer of a more permanent guild house location on Union Street in Kennewick. Now the Looms are warped & ready to weave on, spinning wheels and other rental equipment are ready and available. On the wall, a calendar is filled with monthly meeting of study groups, classes, activities, fun and fellowship. Some of these are the Rigid heddle weaving group, 4 -shaft loom weaving, draw loom weaving, tatting, spinning, knitting, basketry, tapestry and more. DFA provides a safe place to explore the world of fiber. Share, show, sell, but most of all embrace the adventure of learning, laughing, listening, and loving fiber.

Allied Arts has graciously invited Desert Fiber Arts to have a show at their gallery every second January. It is a valued opportunity to connect with the community and share our love of fiber and crafts. This year our show's theme is "Wearable Art" and will be open January 5-30, 2021. Fiber artists will be present demonstrating their crafts throughout the show.
